Celebrating Our Patron Saint: St George

As a Catholic Voluntary Aided school, we are proud to have St George as our patron saint. St George is a shining example of the values we strive to embody at our school - faith, bravery, helpfulness, and a commitment to doing what is right.

Following in the Footsteps of St George

Our school motto, "In everything we do today, we're following Jesus and His way," is a direct reflection of the life and legacy of St George. Like our patron saint, we believe in being faithful, courageous, and steadfast in our pursuit of justice and righteousness.

Faithful

St George was a devout Christian who remained true to his beliefs, even in the face of adversity. At our school, we too value faithfulness and seek to instil in our pupils a deep understanding of what is right and wrong, based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. By living out our school's values of justice, forgiveness, love, respect, and trust, we aim to create a community where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and supported.

Brave

St George's famous act of bravery, in which he saved a village from a ferocious dragon, serves as a powerful inspiration for our pupils. In our own lives, we may face challenges and fears, but by drawing on the example of St George, we can learn to confront these obstacles with courage and determination. As the Bible reminds us, "When I am afraid, I put my trust in you." (Psalm 56)

Helpful

St George did not wait to be asked for help; instead, he proactively offered his assistance to those in need. At St George's, we encourage our pupils to follow this example, by being attentive to the needs of their classmates, families, and the wider community. As the Gospel of John reminds us, Jesus asks, "Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?" (John 6:1)

Righteous

St George knew what was right and was willing to stand up for his convictions. Similarly, we strive to instil in our pupils a strong sense of moral purpose, particularly in their responsibility for helping the poor and needy. As the Apostle Paul wrote, "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." (Galatians 6:9)

Embracing Leadership Opportunities

Just as St George led by example, we encourage our pupils to be great ambassadors for our school and to embrace opportunities for leadership, such as becoming a Caritas Ambassador, a Wellbeing Ambassador, a Play Leader, or a member of the School Council. As the Apostle Paul reminds us, "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity." (1 Timothy 4:12)

By following in the footsteps of our patron saint, St George, the pupils of St George's Catholic Primary School can learn to be faithful, brave, helpful, and righteous - qualities that will serve them well both in their academic pursuits and in their lives beyond the school gates.
