PSHE

St George’s vision for PSHE is to deliver a curriculum that equips students with lifelong skills, for example self-management, team work, perseverance and developing the skill of self-reflection in order to become a healthy, well-balanced member of society.

What is PSHE? Personal, social, health and economic education. The subject teaches children how to articulate their thoughts and feelings and develop a resilience to different situations.  Aspects of the curriculum aims to teach children effective money management and how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

At St George’s PSHE underpins every aspect of learning, PSHE is taught in an engaging, age appropriate way using the National Curriculum as a base and dealing with what’s appropriate to our school. Teachers address topics that are current and relevant to their students. The three core topics that are taught are, relationships, mental health and physical well- being.

Children at St George’s take part in anti-bullying week, safer Internet day and black History month. At St George’s we have our own school council committee which gives children opportunities to discuss and debate key topics. Our school council members are pictured below. Year 6 prefects enjoy taking on different responsibilities within the school, this contributes to the smooth running of assemblies and various other events.  The teaching of PSHE is taught cross-curricula and is a key part of life at St Georges.

Within lessons children learn about similarities and differences between people and identity. Children also learn the importance of respect for others in the community, and how to develop meaningful friendships and relationships with others. Children learn how to keep healthy both mentally and physically. We aim to equip children with the skills and knowledge to deal with everyday situations.
