Design and Technology

Design and Technology at St George's Catholic Primary School

St George's is committed to providing a high-quality, well-rounded education that aligns with our Catholic ethos and values. At the heart of our curriculum is the belief that every child should have the opportunity to develop their creative, technical, and practical skills to thrive in an increasingly technological world.

Our Design and Technology programme, supported by the 'Kapow' scheme of work, fulfils the statutory requirements of the national curriculum. Through this programme, our pupils develop a repertoire of knowledge, understanding, and skills that empower them to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users.

Strands of Learning:

  • Cooking and Nutrition
  • Mechanical Systems
  • Textiles
  • Electrical Systems
  • Structures
  • Digital World

These key strands are woven throughout our Design and Technology lessons, with each project following the essential stages of the design process: Technical Knowledge, Design, Make, and Evaluate. This approach ensures our pupils not only gain practical skills but also the critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to become confident, capable, and creative individuals.

Aligning with Our Vision and Values
At St George's, we are guided by our school motto, "In everything we do today, we are following Jesus and His way," which inspires us to strive for justice, forgiveness, love, respect, and trust. Our Design and Technology curriculum embodies these values by encouraging our pupils to:

  • Develop a sense of responsibility and care for the world around them through sustainable design practises
  • Collaborate with their peers, demonstrating respect and empathy as they critique and evaluate each other's work
  • Approach challenges with resilience and a growth mindset, embracing the opportunity to learn from their mistakes
  • Appreciate the diversity of design solutions and the unique talents and perspectives each child brings to the creative process

By nurturing these values alongside their technical skills, we aim to educate and prepare our children for adult life, empowering them to become confident, complete, and loving individuals who can make a positive impact in their communities and the world.
